Religious Education

religious education

At Mary MacKillop Primary School the teaching of Religious Education fosters a recontextualised and dialogical approach which strengthens a systematic, comprehensive and enriched curriculum. In 2018, Bishop Patrick O’Regan mandated To Live In Christ Jesus as the Religious Education curriculum for the Diocese of Sale. This curriculum meets the needs of School, family and communities in evangelising students and helping them realise the beauty, the power and love of faith in Jesus Christ through an explicit progression of learning with associated achievement standards from Foundation through to Year 6 and beyond.

In the Sale Diocese, sacramental programs are the responsibility of the parish in accordance with the Sacraments of Initiation for Children (policy of the Diocese of Sale). The school supports the Parish in the sacramental programs by assisting with communication to parents, enrolment procedures, facilitating parent/child workshops and through the formal Religious Education Program.

The importance of the formal and informal prayer and liturgy are a vital aspect of the religious life of the school. The school community works closely with the Parish Priest, Assistant Priest, Sacramental Co-ordinator and Office personnel in the Parish. We welcome parent attendance at our regular Mass celebrations, class Reconciliation services and liturgies scheduled throughout the year. Appropriate pastoral care and student support programs for students/families/staff based on the authentic teachings and values of the Catholic Church are implemented.
