Celebrations of Learning
Term 2 Inquiry - Design and Technology / Science
We are very much looking forward to celebrating our Term 2 Inquiry Focus - Design & Technology and Science next week with lots of activities on offer to support our student’s learning. In partnership with Major Road Projects Victoria and Symal (the companies undertaking the roadworks along Narre Warren North Road), we will be able to provide the following learning opportunities for our students:
- Monday 23 May to Wednesday 25 May - Building Blocks construction. All classes will be timetabled to participate in the Building Blocks activity in the Allen Hall.
- Thursday 26 May - Careers in Construction Incursion for students in Years 3 - 6 and an off-site visit to the Roadworks Construction office for our Year 5 and Year 6 students.
- Friday 27 May - Dress up day. Students are to come dressed up in their favourite role - Engineer, Builder, Scientist etc
We look forward to a very special week with lots of activities on offer.
District Cross Country
On Tuesday 24 May selected students will be participating in the next round of District Cross Country. We wish all our students participating next week all the very best as they compete at this next level of competition.
Our Lady Help of Christians Feast Day
Tuesday 24 May is the feast day of our Parish and we wish our parish community all the very best as they celebrate this very special day in their yearly calendar.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students for completing their NAPLAN online tests - Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Our students are to be commended on the diligent and respectful way they have engaged in the testing timetable. A very special thanks to our teachers and to Mrs Privitera and Mrs Huntington for ensuring our NAPLAN testing went smoothly for our students including the make up test window. The make up NAPLAN testing window concludes on Friday 20 May (tomorrow).
2023 Enrolments - Very limited places available
It is wonderful to see a very high demand for enrolments for 2023 Foundation students. Student enrolments have filled very fast and we have very limited places available. If you would like a guided tour by our Year 6 students, please call the office (8794 5777) to arrange a time.
The month of May sees two significant events take place, National Sorry Day and also the beginning of National Reconciliation
National Sorry Day May 26 is held annually on May 26. This day gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and non-Indigenous Australians the chance to come together and commemorate the history of forcible Aboriginal child removals and their continued effect on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities.
Australia celebrates National Reconciliation Week (NRW) during the week beginning 27 May to 3 June every year. It is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Reconciliation is important, serious and challenging work. This year everyone is asked to make change beginning with brave actions in your daily lives – where you live, work, play and socialise.

Jesus promises his disciples that the Father will send the Advocate, the Holy Spirit
In next Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus offers the gift of peace but tells us that his peace is different from the peace that the world gives. The Holy Spirit and peace go together and that peace is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. When we offer people a sign of peace at Mass, we are doing much more than saying “hi” to them. We are offering them our deepest wish that Jesus be always present in their heart.
WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 20 MAY 2022 WALK TO SCHOOL tomorrow!
Well it’s that time of year again when our school seriously starts talking about walking! Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.
You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:
- Walking with them the whole way to school
- If they get the bus, walk past your usual stop and get on at the next stop
- If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.
Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads and traffic. Remember, Active Kids are Healthy Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School Day journey for Friday 20 May 2022!

ANZAC appeal
Berwick Sub-Branch Returned and Services League of Australia Inc Appeals Officer has extended thanks to our School community for supporting the recent Anzac Day Appeal. ”It is pleasing to know that the past efforts and sacrifices of our veterans continue to be recognised by the younger members of our community. The monies raised go to RSL Welfare to help veterans of all services who are in need of assistance. Your school raised $296.50”

Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Information
Mary MacKillop Primary School is one of the three Parish Primary Schools belonging to the Parish of Our Lady Help of Christians, Narre Warren within the Diocese of Sale. Fr Brendan Hogan is our Parish Priest and Fr Ajin Albarnas is our Assistant Priest. We are grateful for their ongoing prayers, involvement and support of the students, families and staff of Mary MacKillop School.

3-BE & 4-HF - Buddy Activity
This week was 'Family week' so we thought it was a great opportunity to get together with our buddies and do an activity about our families.
In 3BE and 4HF, students talked with their buddies about their family, who is in their family, favourite things they like to do with their family, things their family did together during remote learning, family celebrations and how their family shows love for each other. Students drew a picture of their families to create a class book. It was wonderful to see the students engaging with each other so positively, sharing stories and having fun together.
Year 4 Design & Technology
It was great to see students from 4CM putting what they had been learning as part of Design and Technology into practice. In groups, students were set the challenge of designing and constructing the tallest, freestanding structure possible using only the materials on the list. These included two pieces of A3 paper, 10 straws and masking tape. The structure needed to be able hold an item at the top without it collapsing. In the design stage, students needed to think about the shapes they were going to use for their structure. All groups displayed amazing teamwork to complete the challenge. Upon completion, students reflected on what went well and what could be done differently next time. As well as great learning taking place, students had lots of fun!
