DOSCEL Christmas Card Competition - Chloe Year 4
Our warmest congratulations to Chloe on being awarded in the Diocesan Best of School Entry in the DOSCEL Christmas Card Competition. This annual competition is aimed to deepen our students understanding of the key messages in the Christmas story. Well done to Chloe on her creativity and achievement. A copy of her winning entry is below.
Thank you - Annabelle 6MV
Our warmest thanks to Annabelle in Year 6 for her generosity and talents. Annabelle created a beautiful painting of Mary MacKillop as her parting gift to our school. The painting now takes pride of place in our student foyer and is a reminder of the special talents, gifts, thoughtfulness and generosity of the students in our school. Thank you Annabelle!!
Thank you to our Students
As we approach the end of the 2023 school year, we give thanks for the gift of our students at Mary MacKillop. Our students have continued to thrive, to be creative, to be curious and actively engaged in their learning. With our focus on building student voice and agency, they have demonstrated their ability to be agents in shaping their learning journey. It is an honour and privilege to be a part of our students’ learning journey, to witness their growth spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally.
As a school community we farewelled our Year 6 students on the small oval with our annual community blessing. This special event is a time to give thanks for our Year 6 students and to celebrate their time with us. Throughout this year, our Year 6s have been exemplary role models and ambassadors of student voice and agency, demonstrating their passion, leadership skills and pride in our school. Our school is richer because of them and we wish them all the very best as they continue their educational journey.
Thank you to Parents and Families
Thank you to our parents and families for your support throughout the year. Working in partnership with you is a vital component of your child’s learning journey and growth. We are blessed to have so many thoughtful, considerate and compassionate families in our school community. To our families who finish their time at Mary MacKillop, we thank you for sharing your journey with us and wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.
Thank you to Staff
Thank you to our school staff. We are so very blessed at Mary MacKillop to have a dedicated, professional, hardworking staff who endeavour to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of all our students. Thank you to our staff for striving to make Mary MacKillop a welcoming and inclusive place, providing students with opportunities to grow in their student voice and agency, to be connected, to learn and celebrate their successes and achievements.
Greetings from Sensei Stapeldon
Greetings from Japan!!
こんにちは、
Winter snow has come to Hokkaido! I have been learning to walk on the snow (it’s very icy and slippery) and eating a lot of Hokkaido style butter and corn ramen.
Christmas season is also in the air. Beautiful Christmas lights and displays can be found everywhere (sadly no Godzilla trees this year). KFC, 7/11 and even the supermarkets are advertising fried chicken and Japanese style Christmas cakes. Christmas Day is not a holiday in Japan. I will be at school as will my students!
I wish everyone in the Mary Mackillop Primary school community a safe and wonderful holiday season.
メリークリスマス

Wishing our families all the very best for a happy, safe and Holy Christmas with your loved ones
“. . . until we meet again, may God hold you in the Palm of his hand . . .”

Last Friday the Foundation students ventured to the Melbourne Zoo for what was expected to be a full day of fun and exploration. The day started this way, but unfortunately came to an abrupt end due to severe wind. The zoo closed all exhibits and then it’s gates! The Foundation students did experience a few enclosures and loved seeing the elephants, butterflies and giraffes. If you ask them about it, they had the ‘best’ day! A huge thanks to the parent helpers for spending the time with us and for their support on the day.
Due to the short zoo visit, the Foundy students were lucky to experience an Aus Wildlife display at school on Tuesday. Ranger Jackson introduced some amazing Australian animals, including a sugar gliding possum, frog, bird, blue tongue lizard, crocodile and python. There were many students braver to touch the animals then teachers! This encounter was an amazing interactive experience all students enjoyed. Here are a few comments about the wildlife display:
Talia - I liked seeing the frog, but we couldn’t touch him because we need to wash our hands because of his sensitive skin.
Luka - I liked the crocodile because it can snap and the python because it’s so scaly.
Alex - The python was the best because it felt bumpy and scaly.
Lucas - I liked the python because he feels bumpy and cool. He was really long and he curled around Ranger Jackson’s arm.
Mehar - I liked seeing the crocodile, it’s belly felt smooth.
Luca W - I was excited to see the python, I liked the skin because it felt really soft. They are one of my favourite animals.
Nicholas - I liked seeing the frog, he looked funny when he jumped off the man. It lives in Queensland.
Jordan - I liked seeing the python, I learnt they are not poisonous.
This week students have brought home samples of their Christmas art. Here are some samples of our talented students' work...
