COVID-19 updates (as of 27/5/2021)

In light of the growing COVID-19 outbreak, the Hon. James Merlino, Acting Premier of Victoria announced yesterday a state-wide 7 day circuit breaker lockdown in effect from 11.59 pm Thursday 27 May to 11.59 pm Thursday 3 June 2021.

Friday 28 May, 2021 is a student free day across Victoria.  From Monday 31 May to Thursday 3 June, 2021, all schools will commence remote schooling program in line with Victorian Government advice.  Schools will only be open for:

  • Students of parents, guardians or carers considered an essential worker cannot work from home (no evidence required)
  • Vulnerable students including:
    • Children in out of home care
    • Children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm
    • Children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service or mental health or other health service).

Students in attendance for On-site Supervision will be supervised by school staff.  Parents are asked to register their child’s attendance for On-site Supervision ASAP so we can ensure adequate staffing during the Lockdown period.

We ask all families to take care during this time - stay home, stay safe.

Child Safety when online

Please ensure student safety when using the Chromebook at home.  The student Chromebook is to be used for Remote Schooling learning purposes only.  Internet access from home means that the student is under home internet security measures and not the school’s internet security.  Parent’s please ensure there is adequate supervision while your child is engaged in their Remote Schooling learning.  Students are expected to adhere to our Lockdown-Remote Schooling Student Agreement listing expected student behaviours when using the Chromebook online.

Child Safety - Child Friendly version of Child Safety Policy

Our Year 6 student leaders have been working together to produce a child friendly version of our Child Safe Policy.   Mrs Privitera and Mrs Jones have been meeting with the Year 6 student leaders on this very important document.  We hope to have the child friendly version ready to share with classes and to publish in the newsletter and on the website very soon.  We thank our Year 6 student leaders for their contributions and insights to ensure our school community and messages about child safety reaches all students in our school community.

Chromebook Distribution - FRIDAY 28/5/2021

All students have 1-1 Chromebook device to support them in their learning during Remote Schooling.  The Chromebooks and ONE charger per family will be distributed via our drive through service on Friday 28/5/2021 10.00 am - 12.00 pm and 1.00 pm - 3.00 pm.  The IT User Agreement must be signed by parents to ensure student safety when online.  Please do not remove any school stickers/labels from the Chromebook.  The Chromebook and charger must be returned on Friday 4 June when school is expected to resume after the lockdown period, unless further advice is received from DOSCEL and/or the Victorian Government.  The Chromebook must only be used for learning purposes and under adequate supervision by parents.  Thank you for working in partnership with us for your child’s online safety.

Celebrations of Learning - Inquiry

As part of their learning in Inquiry this term – Design and Technologies and Science, the Year 3 and 4 students were engaged Shelter Building and Physical Science incursion on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 May.

The Year 3 students engaged in Shelter Building with Supreme Incursions.  The Shelter Building experience provided students with the opportunity to develop their team building skills to construct a shelter that would protect them from the harshest weather conditions.  Students learnt about various types of human-made and natural shelters worked within a budget to use their money wisely, negotiating needs –v- wants, calculating refunds, exchanges through collaboration and team work to complete their problem solving task successfully.

The Year 4 students engaged in Physical Sciences activities with Supreme Incursions.  Their task challenged students to think critically about forces and energy.  They investigated heat and discovered how it is used as a source of energy and identified friction, magnetism and pressure as contact and non-contact forces.  Curriculum areas covered throughout this learing experience included heat, forces, magnetism, potential and kinetic energy, light reflection and refraction, pressure, investigating, communicating and making observations.

Celebrating 200 Years of Catholic Education

As part of Catholic Education Week we celebrated a whole school Mass this morning.  This year marked the 200 anniversary of Catholic Education in Australia and we were able to take the time this morning to stop and reflect on the significant and important journey and to look forward to our theme this year of Faith in the Future.
