Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A

Sunday, September 10, 2023

Matthew 18:15-20
Jesus teaches his disciples how to settle disputes in the Church.

In next Sunday’s Gospel we hear Jesus’ plan for how disputes are to be settled within the Christian community. Prayer is also an important part of handling conflict. Jesus promises that he will guide the decisions of those who pray to him. When we have a problem with another person, we pray that God will help to bring peace to the situation and that God will be with us as we work toward this peace.

As a family you may wish to pray together the Peace Prayer of Saint Francis.

St Francis Prayer

Let Us Pray

St Francis Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

St Francis of Assisi
