Yesterday, the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extend to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion. During Mass yesterday each classroom received a Project Compassion box for student donations or you can donate online via the Caritas Australia website at: www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion

Matthew 4:1-11
Jesus fasts for 40 days in the desert and is tempted by the devil.
Sometimes we are tempted to do things that we know are not right. We all experience many kinds of temptations. When we are tempted, what helps us resist temptation?
Jesus also faced temptations. The Gospels tell about a time when Jesus went to the desert to pray and fast, and the devil tempted him.
Jesus trusted God’s word in Scripture and was able to resist the temptations of the devil. Scripture can also help us resist temptation. When we read the Bible, we learn about God and what God wants of us.

Mary MacKillop Primary School is one of the three Parish Primary Schools belonging to the Parish of Our Lady Help of Christians, Narre Warren within the Diocese of Sale. Fr Brendan Hogan is our Parish Priest and Fr Ajin Albarnas is our Assistant Priest.
