As part of our Inquiry focus on History, Year 2 students have assisted in creating a Class Museum. Students were asked to find an item from the past that their parents or grandparents had used/was special to them. Through conversation with the museum item’s owner, students were able to gather information about how old the object was, who its original owner was and how the item was used. Students were also encouraged to explore how the item has changed over time. Using the information they collected, students then wrote a presentation, which they used to help them in presenting their item to the class in the form of a formal presentation. All students did a wonderful job of sharing their museum item with the class and we would like to extend our appreciation to all the family members who allowed their items to be displayed within the museums.

The Year 2 students are eagerly awaiting our very first excursion to Como House and Garden in South Yarra. Como Historic House & Garden is one of the last surviving 19th Century grand houses of Melbourne. Students will compare the life of 19th Century children and families to their own experiences on a tour of the house where the lives of the 19th Century children are brought to life. It is sure to be a fantastic experience to conclude our History unit.
