Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C

Sunday, February 6, 2022

In next Sunday’s Gospel, tells us what happened when Jesus called Simon Peter to be his disciple. Simon Peter was a fisherman. Simon Peter hadn't caught any fish. But he trusted Jesus. He followed Jesus’ command to lower the nets into the water. Jesus told Simon Peter he would be a different type of fisherman. Jesus was calling Simon Peter to help him bring people to God.  Jesus calls us to follow him too. One way that we follow Jesus is by telling others about him.

Child Safety and Wellbeing

At Mary MacKillop Primary School, we believe that ensuring the safety of the students in our care is an integral part of who we are as a Catholic faith community. We adhere to Victorian Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order No. 870.  We embed a culture of child safety and the matter is taken very seriously.

“Children are the future of the human family: all of us are expected to promote their growth, health and tranquillity,” Pope Francis 2021

Resources to support parents and carers

Parent Education Helping kids settle back into school

Settling into school after a long break is a challenge for some students. Fortunately, there are many ways parents can make the transition easier in the first weeks of school.

We are calling on everyone to play it safe and fair online.

To help celebrate getting back to school and Safer Internet Day on Tuesday 8 February, eSafety website has produced new resources to provide schools and families with fun and engaging ways to work online safety into the curriculum and family life. Ask your child about how we can all help create a safe online environment.

Safe Around Schools

City of Casey are very proud and excited to release their first Safe Around Schools education animation for the beginning of the new school term 2022.  The first animation is focussed on School Crossings. With 93 Schools and over 200 school crossings in the City of Casey, these animations will promote good road safety behaviour and outline the rules around creating a safer school precinct. This animation will support schools and also the School Crossing Supervisors around our precinct.  We hope to see improved behaviour around the school crossings from pedestrians and drivers.

Families can view the video and know the expectations around schools and keeping children and families safe.  The video can be translated and there are also subtitles.
