Feast of the Assumption of Mary
Friday 15 August
This Friday is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary - a holy day of obligation for Catholics. Catholics believe that Mary was physically taken up (assumption) to heaven with her body and soul remaining united. On this day we remember and give thanks for Mary who said “yes” to God. May we continue to say “yes” as Mary did - yes, to loving each other, yes to saying sorry, yes to living in peace, yes to a close relationship with our God through prayer and our actions and words.
Father Michael
Father Michael loved our video of the students and staff wishing him a speedy recovery. He is now in rehabilitation so please continue to pray for him.
Parent Evening - Raising Kids in a Digital World Thursday 11 September
Just a reminder to please keep this evening set aside - we have a link to enable you to register for this event. As it is quite costly, it will not proceed unless we have enough parents registering to make it worthwhile. Please see the poster further in the newsletter to register.
Father's Day
Please see the attached flyer in today's newsletter regarding this year's Father's Day celebrations - please note the change of DAY for the Breakfast to a Thursday morning.
Excursions
This week we have had three excursions - Year 5 went to Coal Creek (Wednesday), Year 4 went to Polly Woodside yesterday and Year 3 are going to the Melbourne Museum today . Thank you to parents who are able to attend these days - your help is greatly appreciated. Next Wednesday the Year 2 students are off to Como House. All of these excursions are carefully planned and link to current Inquiry units and provide our students with opportunities to extend their thinking. Keep a lookout in coming newsletters for photos!
Car Park/Traffic Management
At our school entrance and inside our school gate there are signs which state that cars cannot begin to queue for after school pick up until 3.15pm. This allows cars to get into the school and park - these parents usually get out of their car and collect their child/children/grandchild from a set spot or from the classroom. When cars queue before 3.15pm it stops the flow of traffic and causes Ernst Wanke Drive to become congested and dangerous. In addition, when we have excursions we need the buses to be able to get into the school. If cars have queued early, this stops the buses from entering and our students are put at risk. PLEASE do not queue until 3.15pm - if you arrive early, please park and then form a queue after 3.15pm.
Staff feedback to Students
Well done Year 6 students on leading each activity with Kaboom last Friday and for setting and packing up all the activities - you helped everyone have a wonderful Mary MacKillop Feast Day.
Thank you Year 2 students for lining up so well after each break and being ready for learning.
Planning for 2026 School Year
2026 Student Class Placements
Teachers will begin planning for our 2026 classes in the coming weeks. We respect and value parent input and ask that you email me – gverstraete@marymacnarre.catholic.edu.au, or put in writing and leave at the Administration Office, if you have information about your child that could impact on their placement for 2026.
Please ensure your request is received by Friday 29 August, 2025. Requests received after the cut off date of Friday 29 August are very difficult to take into consideration.
We ask parents to be mindful of our teachers’ preparation and time that goes into student/class placements, which is not an easy task, taking into account all the areas mentioned below:
- Staff use their professional judgement and a range of information when placing students into classes. This information includes student learning progress, learning strengths, learning needs, NCCD Data, gender balance within classes and across the level to provide an optimal learning environment for ALL students.
- Parent requests are forwarded onto staff when placing students into their 2026 classes. Please note, the 2025 class teacher places students from their 2025 grade into the 2026 class groupings.
- Please be aware that your letters of request are not a guarantee of your child’s placement.
- Please note that requests made in previous years are not necessarily considered in the process. Historical information provided by parents regarding their child’s placement will need to be re-submitted if the concerns expressed in previous years are still relevant for consideration in 2026.
Last week we send out an eform via PAM to all Foundation to Year 5 students regarding their intention to return in 2026. If you haven't dopne so already, please ensure that you complete this eform by Friday 29 August 2025.
