YEAR 6 NEWS
During our time learning about Design and Technology our class 6 MV, built model houses in groups of 3-4. Our Success Criteria included that we had to build working light bulbs and fan circuits from limited resources and only a week to build it. While it was lots of fun working with our peers there were some challenges during our time building our model houses. Some problems included circuits not working properly or some had problems with landscape and the house itself. While there were some challenges, everyone in our class persevered and the results were outstanding at the end of our time on this project. Ashton - 6 MV
Recently the year 6’s followed a design process to create a small model house that has a working light and fan in a small group. It was lots of fun getting to be a little bit creative with all the materials trying to create a sturdy item with our group. Doing all the wiring and trying to create a power source to create a working fan or light was definitely my favourite part about this project. Aaria - 6MV
I think it was great doing the inquiry house model because I got the experience of creating circuits and connecting wires to make light bulbs and fans work. It was also really fun doing it with my friends because we could show what we could all do together and see what specialties each one of us have. Gabriel - 6MV
When me and my group did the Design and Technology model houses we made sure the fan and light worked as it was part of the Success Criteria. Another thing we did well was our good attention to detail and made sure we followed the design process of Investigate, Plan and Manage, Generate, Create and Evaluate. We could have worked harder on making the house more decorated. Overall doing this was very fun for me and my group. Toby - 6MV
During Inquiry, the year 6’s were making a model house. We had to work in groups and we had to work using lights and fans! First we had to do a sketch in our inquiry booklets and write down the materials we were going to use. We had to start with a cardboard box and stick down the wiring, the circuits, the switch, the batteries and the mini lights and fans. We had to make sure that the wires were connected so the lights and fans could work properly. It was fun trying to make solutions to our problems if the circuits were not working. Making a model house was not easy, just so many little details that we missed all the time. We were also able to work on the interior. Making a model house was lots of fun and challenging, seeing all our hard work pay off when the lights and fans were working was amazing! All of the year 6’s did an amazing job! Alex - 6MV
Last Tuesday we had an Incursion Mad About Science, it was a great experience and we learnt many fascinating things. We learnt a lot about light and Isaac Newton (including BOBBES). As we were progressing through the incursion we learnt different things at each station (table) as we rotated. It was all so interesting and one of my most fun and top experiences at an amazing incursion like that! - Chloe - 6JK
We had a Science incursion and we learnt a lot about light and using these different shapes to make the light go in different directions. Also we learnt about other things that are used to make light like fires,Sun,Candles and Lanterns. We rotated to different tables and each of them had something related to science like magnifying glasses and a book of illusions. It was really fun just learning about science in general and the best thing of all is that we all had a good time. Coral - 6JK
The science incursion was very fun and interesting because we got to learn about light and how it travels. He showed us how we can do different things to light like bending it, bouncing it and even splitting the light. We also had these glasses that when we looked at the lights in the room, split into all the colours of the rainbow, tables with different activities to do that we rotated on. Ken was very cool and was awesome, thank you Ken! Noah - 6JK
We had an Incursion about science. It was a very fun and intuitive learning experience about science and how light works. We had lots of fun with all the tables/stations, trying experiments and making light. We had something that was called ‘Firework Glasses’. They were glasses that when you looked at the light, you could see rainbows and rainbow lines all around the place. We also had something called a ‘Hodson Light Box’, which came with many different shapes and colours of glass. If you put a shape of glass in front of it, the light would change shape therefore it is the same with the colours of plastic like material. If you insert the colour it would change colour! Our instructor, Ken, was the best instructor we had! THANK YOU KEN!!!!!! - Kyden - 6JK
