Mary MacKillop Primary School News

Yesterday morning, like every Wednesday morning, students led the MMPS News time which is broadcast across every classroom.  Each level contributes to a MMPS News time each term. Yesterday it was Year 5 featuring an evidence based reading strategy they are using to help them become more fluent readers and to help them comprehend texts with an increasing amount of detail. This showcased and highlighted our student’s ability to understand what a good reader does and the thinking process behind reading. Well done Year 5!

Cross Country

It was wonderful to watch our Year 3-6 students yesterday morning having a go at Cross Country. Thank you also to the many parents who arrived to support the students. We certainly have some very fast runners and some of these students will now go through to District Cross Country. A very big thank you to Mr Clint Timothy for all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make these events happen.

Mother’s Day

The tradition of the Mother’s Day Breakfast at Mary MacKillop continues this Friday morning - we look forward to welcoming mums, grandmothers, aunties or special women in our student’s lives. Come and enjoy a bacon and egg roll and a guest speaker from Catholic Care. We will then commence our Assembly at 9am.

We have a limited number of gifts left over from yesterday's Mother's Day Stall available from the office if children would like to purchase an additional gift.  All gifts $8.00.

May all women who mother enjoy this Sunday and may you find joy and love in your role as a mother/grandmother/caregiver. You may find comfort in this prayer from the Diocese of Wollongong website:

Lord Jesus Christ, You chose to put yourself—tiny, needy and helpless—into the nurturing and watchful hands of a human mother. Since then, every act of mothering, both physical and spiritual, in every time and every corner of the world recollects Mary’s. Inspired by this example, we, too, honour our mothers and mother figures today. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers and nurturers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, honour them always with a spirit of profound respect.

We ask this in your holy name. Amen.

Student Feedback

Well done 4-AB in our Reconciliation celebration last Thursday. You demonstrated reverence through your reflections and contributions to Fr. Michael’s homily. You should be very proud of the respectful behaviour that you all demonstrated.

Well done to the Year 6’s for their consistent role modelling when the music is playing to stop their games and making their way back to class waiting for their teacher. Words that teachers can hear are; ‘pick up the ball’ and ‘let’s go back to class’. Keep up the good work.

Well done to the Year 6’s in their responsibilities during this busy week with the Mother’s Day stall, Child Safety booklet and setting up for Mother’s Day breakfast. Your continued enthusiasm is great to see.

Well done 4FW for the way you demonstrated reverence during our Reconciliation celebration. You should be proud of the way you behaved during this time.

Well done Year 3 & 4 students for the way you demonstrated respect and responsibility during the Cross Country event this week. Congratulations to all who participated in this great team sport.
